Shpëtim Hysenaj (1990 – 11 October 2010) was a Kosovan football midfielder who played for FC Wil, Concordia Basel and BSC Old Boys in Switzerland in his very short playing career.
Born in Weil am Rhein, Germany to parents from the northern city of Kosovska Mitrovica in Yugoslavia, Hysenaj was on the books of Swiss side FC Wil before moving to Concordia Basel and then BSC Old Boys to play professionally. In 2009 he received an offer to join FC Winterthur but failed a medical and was diagnosed with leukaemia, which ended his short career.[1][2]
He had chosen to play for Albania and was part of the Albania U-21 training camp in 2009, just four weeks before being diagnosed with leukemia.[1][2]
He died aged just 20 on 11 October 2010 following a 20 month battle for his life against leukemia.[1][2]
